Google Voice Search and iPhone Make Perfect Combo
If you own iPhone and have been happy with Google’s GOOG411 voice assisted directory service, you can experience the safest and coolest way to search while you are on the road – using your voice.
The search is pretty accurate and uses iPhone’s location aware system to list local results at the top. If you listen to a new song and don’t know the artist name, just placing the iPhone closer to the speaker will enable search using Google Voice Search, identify the artist name and, if you prefer, let you buy a related product from AppStore. Simple and Sweet.
GOOG411 data samples were reportedly used extensively in training Voice Search. The result speaks for itself. There are a few limitations to voice search:
- It does not search local contacts
- It cannot do voice dialing
- It takes a few attempts to recognize strong accents
But, I think these are minor inconveniences and Big G will address them soon.
To get this free application, go to AppStore on your iPhone and search for Google Mobile App. This quick video demonstrates the built-in motion sensors and location aware search:
I have been lucky not having accidents while entering search terms on the road. Google Voice Search can be a life saver for me – literally. Getting accurate results using fewer key strokes and finger flicks is great.
What’s next from Google Voice Recognition Team? Voice enable Google Docs, Calendar, Email, Reader and/or Text Message? I can hardly wait.
Happy Searching!
